We all agree that the restoration of an oldtimer requires a lot of time.
The way in which we should restore a car depends on the condition of the car, it´s
owner and it´s budget.
For instance a businessman will certainly have no time to be under
the car during the late evening hours. He will bring it to a restoration company
and will receive “the surprise” after 2 years.
In 1980 , I had absolutely no money to restore a car. I was very lucky that
La Reina Negra was original and that the bodywork was in good condition.
The only holes were those found underneath the doors.

RESTORATION 1980 / 1983
THE ANTI RUST TREATMENT
I started to put the car on a couple of bricks. With a scrubber and machine brush I
started to get rid of any rusty surfaces. First I coated the car in red anti rust paint.
After that a new product came on the market , it was Novorox. It transformed
the rust into a anti oxygen cover. It was white stuff but became black after it dried.
During the restoration I often went for a cup of tea at my grandmothers place.
“Oh , my grandson , you are working very hard on that car , she said once
on a sunny Saturday…..

“Yes grandma …I am really getting thirsty with all this work.
Most of the time I was offered a bottle of beer (Amstel) or a cup of tea.
Sometimes my grandma entered the garage to take a look at the car. That was much
appreciated and that´s why I took a picture of my grandma together with the
“restoration object”.
