1 9 3 8 THE BIRTH OF THE BIG 15The Traction Avant was a big success but meantime engineers were working very hard on a new Traction Avant. The new version should be bigger , faster and more comfortable. The first “15” was a unique car because of it´s long wheel base , the low bodywork ,the heavy engine in the front and the improved front- wheel technology. All these characteristics gave the car excellent roadholding. |

Due to these features the “15” was very popular among criminals. For this reason it became known also as the “gangster-car” In 1954 Citroën introduced it´s famous hydropneutic suspension system on the “15”. Only 3077 cars have been produced of this type . In 1955 the Citroën ID (later known as the DS) was introduced to the public. The enormous success of the ID meant the end of the 15 SIX. |
